HOW TO USE GUA SHA
Follow these steps for Facial Gua Sha
- On clean face, and neck, apply a generous amount of oil or moisturiser of your choice.
The Gua Sha stones need lubrication to glide and perform to their fullest.
- Take a few deep breaths to activate your lymphatic system and start scraping in the back of the neck in upward motions towards the ear.
- From your ear and forward, scrape down to your collarbones
- Tip! I put my Gua Sha tool in a cup of cold water in-between strokes for added glide and a cooling sensation.
- Moving on to the face, start at the chin in the middle of the face and glide the stone gently in a 45 degree angle, out towards the ears.
- Keep the skin in place with the other hand as a base.
- Move up to the nose, cheekbones and eye area and repeat the gentle strokes 3-5 times from centre of your face out towards the ears.
Be extra gentle around your delicate eye area.
- Go behind the ears and scrape down with your Gua Sha tool, from the back of the ear to the collarbone gently in between strokes to rid excess lymph fluid.
- On the forehead, use out and upward strokes, still with your other hand as a base. You want to engage your tool with your skin, without pulling too hard.
If using the comb tool, use the teeth-side from the hairline up towards the top of your head, to release tension and boost circulation in the scalp.
- Dab excess oil off your skin and wash your GUA SHA tool after each use, with soap and water.
- Possibly cleanse your face with gentle micellar water, apply moisturiser if needed and enjoy the benefits of a revived face with boosted glow!
NOTE: Check with your doctor or healthcare provider if you are unsure if Gua Sha is suitable for you or not. Especially if you take any medication like blood thinners.
If you recently have had injectables of any form, wait 1 month to use Gua Sha.
If you have Acne, Psoriasis, Rosacea, Perioral Dermatitis or any other skin concern, avoid using Gua Sha if you have active breakouts. When your skin health is stable, it is safe to use gentle strokes around the breakoutarea, but not directly over it.
Remember to keep your tool clean at all times to avoid inflammation.
